The Kris Johnson Big Band
Formed as an answer to the isolation of the pandemic in March 2020, the KJBB is an exciting modern interpretation of a large ensemble and performs works composed or arranged by Kris Johnson.
In forming the band, it was important to Kris that the roster would include a wide range of racial, gender, and age diversity. The unique digital format of the band to this point has allowed Kris to hand-pick artists from around the world, resulting is an ensemble that is representative of the true face of modern music. The signature modern approach will continue as the KJBB expands into a live project.

Kris' #looptherapy is explorative of the deep personal work he has undergone in recent years as he has explored breaking out of generational trauma. The circular nature of trauma has fascinated Kris, and #looptherapy artistically represents breaking through toxic patterns.
The project was originally released in video format on Kris' social media channels, but has since expanded into a full album and live solo performances.

The Kris Johnson Group
Originally formed in 2007, the Kris Johnson Group plays an eclectic blend of Detroit-infused original music. Kris gathered the founding members from friendships formed in high school, under the tutelage of Marcus Belgrave, whose inspiration led them to genre-bending artistry. The result is a dynamic ensemble that explores an array of grooves from the Black American Music canon and themes of freedom and fearless self-expression.
The music is delivered by a diverse group artists, each of whom are prolific educators, performers, improvisers, composers, and arrangers in their own right. Principal among these collaborators is Lulu Fall, Kris' partner in music and in life.
